What could possibly be so bad that it ruins your entire life on it’s own? ― Bad weather? GMOs? The government? Stress? The Illuminati? Maybe it’s something mysterious and mystical that is deeply engrained into your karmic debt?

It’s none of that either. It’s actually much more simple…

What ruins most people’s lives boils down to a single word, seriousness.

What You Don’t Mind Doesn’t Matter

Seriousness is sickness, it is not a device. Ultimately, it is seriousness that leads to death. Does the phrase dead serious ring a bell? I don’t advice seriousness ever. There is no good reason to take anything serious.

There is a big dogma about that people think if you’re not serious, you’re a failure ― if you’re relationship isn’t serious or you don’t take your job seriously that you are a failure. The opposite couldn’t be more true.

What you make serious becomes rigid and inflexible. Serious matters become so dense that they become dead. Not to mention, what we take seriously matters more than us. Let me be the first to tell you, nothing matters more than you ― unless you mind.

If you mind, does it matter?

The Degrees Of Seriousness

There is something my mentor calls the Degrees of Seriousness that explains all too simply that life is not serious. Unless of course, we make it so ― primordially choosing a life of struggle and suffering.

So let me ask you, are you…

  • Serious?
  • Real Serious?
  • God Damn Serious?
  • Dead Serious?

You see, as we become serious ― even just a little serious ― whatever it is we are making so seriously takes control over us. Essentially, the things we make serious are nothing more than our views. We look at something and we THINK a whole lot of shit about it, rather than see it as it truly is.

When people become real serious is when they look at the kitchen and think “this is a stupid kitchen, it’s ugly, it’s dirty, it has no beauty to it, it makes me sick!” The thoughts create some nasty view of something that isn’t worth suffering. However, they end up a suffering victim to their own views.

What they don’t understand is that they have a choice to make things aesthetic or ugly. However, most people feel things must look or be a certain way. In resistance to what is, suffering is created. That is, all suffering is denial of reality. Denial of reality is rooted in seriousness.

That is because the more serious we become, the more things matter. When everything matters, we end up trying to change existence. Anyone carrying the burden of changing existence (which is completely out of our control) ends up dead serious.

Getting back to playfulness then is key for not just thriving in serenity but in simple living.

Playfulness: Becoming Fun Again

  • Don’t Think, LOOK- Life is playfulness, fun, because the whole existence is a giant circus. Just stop thinking so damn much, get out of your head and look around ― It is all fun ― all the colors of the flowers, so many beautiful animals, birds, clouds, and for no purpose; they don’t serve any special purpose. There is no goal to existence. Life is a play unto itself. It is sheer abundance of energy, overflowing energy ― existence goes on expanding. If you wish to ever to be free then first become free of yourself. Get out of your own head and enjoy the riches of the present.
  • Know Your Self- There is no purpose to your true self, there is just being. Do you know that you ARE? The truest of you has no God, because whenever something is created there is purpose for it. Whenever something is created there is a motive, and when somebody creates it, the created can never be anything other than a machine. Are you just a body and a machine? If you continue to identify with your meat and bones, you will never know the infinite play of life. To know yourself is the goal of spirituality. I cannot give you a sentence to do this, it is a journey. But you can taste it. For example, just right now I want you to notice something. Notice who is doing the reading of this article. Can you witness? Who is the one doing the noticing of each word, creating up the non-audible language in your mind. Who is that silence? From there, carry the witness through your body. Notice your shoulders, your heart beat, your breathe, then if you will, notice existence. Notice the corner of the room, look don’t think. Put your observation there, then put it all around the room. You are here and everywhere, the world isn’t out there, it is in you. And existence is out there, it is eternal play of energies in millions of forms.

So I encourage you, stop ruining your life with pointless thoughts. Fun is the most sacred word there is. Far more sacred than your God Damn prayers. It is one of the only words that can give a sense of playfulness. Stop taking life so seriously, you can start running after butterflies, searching for seashells on the beach, telling jokes and laughing at them. For GOD SAKES, haha. Just kidding 😉

Until next time,
Nick
